MoonPay's introduction of the MoonAgents Card marks a significant development in the growth of the agentic economy. This virtual Mastercard debit card enables users and AI agents to spend stablecoins directly from self-custodial onchain wallets, bridging the gap between onchain balances and traditional retail checkout flows.
The card pairs a self-custodial wallet with a Mastercard virtual credential through Monavate's issuing stack. When a purchase is made, a smart contract authorizes stablecoin access for that single transaction, and Monavate executes the onchain funding and card authorization in real time.
The design of the MoonAgents Card preserves a familiar checkout experience while moving value over crypto rails behind the scenes. It also addresses a key limitation in the agentic economy by allowing autonomous agents to spend at any merchant worldwide that accepts Mastercard.
