Altcoin Market Hits $1 Trillion Milestone, ZEC and XRP Lead the Charge

The total market capitalization of altcoins has surpassed $1 trillion, marking a significant milestone in the cryptocurrency market. The index, known as TOTAL2, has stabilized above the psychological mark of $1 trillion, driven by strong performances from Zcash (ZEC), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE).

Zcash, in particular, has been a standout performer, posting gains of over 70% and breaking above $585. The coin's price surge is attributed to a combination of factors, including the formation of a significant position by Multicoin Capital and a fundamental supply shortage due to nearly 30% of the total supply being held in shielded addresses.

XRP has also seen significant institutional interest, with ETF inflows reaching $11.5 million over the past 24 hours. The growth is driven by expectations surrounding the CLARITY Act bill deadline on May 21st and the potential for XRP to become a widely accepted digital payment solution.
