Special Operations Forces (SOF) are increasingly relying on cryptocurrency to facilitate covert payments, non-standard acquisitions, and deception operations. However, the widespread adoption of blockchain technology has raised concerns about the anonymity of transactions.

According to experts, most cryptocurrency transactions are pseudonymous, making them traceable by adversaries who obtain a single wallet address. This can expose partner identities, network size, payment patterns, and operational timelines, compromising the secrecy of SOF operations.

To counter this risk, SOF operators can employ various countermeasures such as burner wallets, mixers, privacy coins, and peer-to-peer exchanges. However, these measures may themselves attract suspicion, highlighting the need for a more robust approach to managing crypto use.
