OKX Taps Former Governor Cuomo in Bid for Regulated Integration
OKX, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has hired former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to its board of directors. This move is seen as a natural progression from his two-year stint as an advisor to the company.
Cuomo co-chairs a joint venture between OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which operates the New York Stock Exchange. The venture aims to build infrastructure for tokenized assets, institutional derivatives, and around-the-clock trading.
OKX customers would gain access to ICE futures and tokenized NYSE equities through this partnership. Notably, ICE already holds a board seat at OKX from an earlier investment that valued the exchange at $25 billion.
Cuomo's directorship extends the relationship between OKX and ICE via a licensed, publicly accountable market operator sitting inside a crypto exchange's governance. This arrangement allows OKX to assemble the licenses, partners, and governance of a regulated financial firm.
