Balance Coin Stablecoin Collapses After Hacker Exploit
The Balance Coin (BLC) stablecoin collapsed on July 22, 2026, after hackers exploited its governance structure. The attack targeted the protocol's Median Oracle, which feeds Bitcoin price data into the system. By manipulating this oracle, the attackers artificially low-balled the Bitcoin price, triggering unwarranted liquidations of collateralized vaults.
The exploit drained approximately $912,000 to $915,000 from 42DAO, the governance entity responsible for Balance Coin. This amount is almost the entire nominal market value of $3.5 million wiped out in a matter of minutes.
This incident highlights the vulnerabilities in decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, particularly regarding price oracle security. It's not the first time oracles have been the weak link, and it serves as a warning for stakeholders who might now favor stability and proven security track records over high returns.
