North Carolina Authorities Seize $61 Million in Tether Linked to Crypto Investment Scams
In a significant development in the ongoing fight against crypto investment scams, North Carolina authorities have executed a major Tether (USDT) seizure, targeting funds linked to alleged money laundering activity. The operation, carried out by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, resulted in the confiscation of over $61 million in USDT.
The seized funds are tied to so-called 'pig butchering' schemes, which involve building fake romantic or trust-based relationships with victims before steering them to purported investment sites promising high returns. These scams have generated billions in global losses in recent years, as criminal groups professionalize their social engineering operations.
