A new analysis of survey data by the Pew Research Center reveals that Republicans have significantly outpaced Democrats in adopting cryptocurrencies. According to the study, published in June 2026, 22% of Republicans and Republican-leaning individuals reported buying or trading cryptocurrency, compared to 17% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning respondents.
The five-point gap is notable, especially considering that both parties were tied at roughly 16% adoption in 2021. Over the past year, Republican adoption jumped six points from 16%, while Democratic adoption remained essentially flat, ticking up only one percentage point to 17%. This means nearly all of the net growth in crypto participation came from Republicans.
The data also highlights that men aged 30-49 led all demographic groups with 40% reporting cryptocurrency use. Younger men (18-29) came close behind at 38%, and upper-income households showed significant engagement, with 27% utilizing cryptocurrencies.
