The European Union has unveiled a new set of sanctions against Russia as part of its ongoing efforts to weaken the country's economy and military capabilities. The 21st sanctions package, proposed by the EU Commission on June 9th, targets key sectors such as banking, energy, and military industries.
The package includes over 170 individual measures, including asset freezes on nearly 90 banks and new restrictions on cryptocurrency transactions. These restrictions would affect 11 crypto service providers in third countries, limiting Russia's ability to circumvent the effects of the sanctions.
The EU Commission has also proposed new bans on the resale of LNG tankers to Russia and added 30 new vessels operating within Russia's 'shadow fleet' to the sanctions list. Two Russian ports and four airports will face new transaction bans under the proposal.
