Only Four Coins From Original Top 10 List Remain Dominant After a Decade
The crypto market has undergone significant changes over the past decade, with only four coins from the original top 10 list remaining in the same position by 2026. The original list included Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dash, Lisk, Dogecoin, and NEM, but today's top 10 is comprised of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether (USDT), Binance Coin (BNB), XRP, USDC, Solana, Tron, Hyperliquid, and Dogecoin.
Bitcoin has maintained its position as the market leader throughout the decade, but its share of the combined top 10 market capitalization has decreased from around 87% in 2016 to nearly two-thirds in 2026. Stablecoins have surged 74% in market share over the past year, with USDT holding a 9.24% market share and USDC at 3.7%. BNB is the first exchange token to crack the top 10.
XRP is the only non-Bitcoin asset to survive every single year from 2016 to 2026. Its position changed over time, but it never dropped outside the group. XRP's long-term position came from its established community, strong liquidity, exchange availability, and continued focus on cross-border payments and settlement.
