MoonPay Integrates Cryptocurrency Buying into ChatGPT

MoonPay has integrated its services into the popular AI chatbot platform ChatGPT, allowing users to buy cryptocurrency directly within the chatbot. The app supports Bitcoin, XRP, Solana, and USDC, providing a convenient option for users who want to invest in cryptocurrencies without leaving the chat interface.

The purchase flow is similar to that of online shopping platforms, with ChatGPT generating a MoonPay checkout link when a user requests to buy a cryptocurrency. First-time buyers must complete a Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification process, which includes connecting a crypto wallet and providing identification documents. Existing MoonPay customers can simply sign in and use their saved payment method.

MoonPay's blockchain engineer and product lead Kevin Arifin described the setup as similar to a Shopify checkout link, emphasizing the low-friction nature of the process. He also highlighted the growing trend of users doing financial research within AI chatbots rather than traditional web searches.
