Cryptocurrency Demands Fuel Fears of Fake Offers Amid Strait of Hormuz Blockade
A recent warning has been issued by a Greek maritime risk management firm regarding fraudulent messages being sent to shipping companies.
The scammers claim they can provide safe transit through the blocked Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that handles around a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas.
The situation arises due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with the United States blocking Iranian ports and Iran reimposing its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.
The scammers are demanding payments in cryptocurrency, aiming to leave no financial trail behind. Shipping companies are advised not to contact these entities or attempt to take advantage of the fake offers.
