Trump Orders Push for Quantum Computing, Secure Cryptography

US President Donald Trump has signed two executive orders aimed at advancing quantum computing and securing the nation's data against potential threats from adversaries. The orders come as China ramps up its own investments in scalable quantum computers, following a Five-Year Plan announced in March.

The first order focuses on building a quantum computer capable of initiating an era of 'quantum-enabled scientific discovery.' Within 180 days, relevant agencies must update the National Quantum Strategy to support commercialization and industry partnerships. The effort is led by the national initiative QC-ADDS, aimed at pursuing a quantum computer that will push the boundaries of current technology.

The second order prioritizes upgrading US cryptography to be resistant against potential attacks from large-scale quantum computers. Major blockchain networks like Ethereum and Solana have already begun exploring post-quantum roadmaps, while Bitcoin's community remains divided on how to secure old coins.
