Tether Freezes Billions in USDT Amid Global Investigations
Tether has taken significant action to restrict suspicious USDT transactions on the Tron and Ethereum networks. According to recent data from blockchain security firm BlockSec, Tether has frozen over $515 million in USDT tied to hundreds of blacklisted addresses.
The majority of the frozen funds are on the Tron network, where nearly $506 million was restricted. This is a significant increase compared to earlier findings, which showed that Tether had blacklisted around 4,163 unique addresses across both networks during 2025, locking up approximately $1.26 billion in USDT.
The restrictions are part of Tether's efforts to combat crime and sanctions violations. The company has stated that it cooperates with over 340 law enforcement agencies across 65 countries to prevent illicit activities such as ransomware payments, sanction evasion, and large-scale financial crime.
