Influencer 'Hawk Tuah girl' reflects on traumatic memecoin implosion experience

Social media influencer Haliey Welch, known as the 'Hawk Tuah girl', is reflecting on her involvement in the HAWK memecoin implosion. The incident has left a lasting impact on Welch, who stated that she was traumatized by the experience and received death threats from disgruntled investors.

In an interview with Channel 5's Andrew Callaghan, Welch discussed the events surrounding the HAWK memecoin launch in December 2024. She revealed that she had been approached to promote the coin but had not fully understood its workings. Welch admitted that she was misled by her partners and that she did not possess any of the funds from the memecoin launch.

The HAWK memecoin surged to a market capitalization of over $490 million mere hours after going live, only to collapse by over 91% the following day. Welch acknowledged that the incident had a significant impact on her mental health and caused her to reevaluate her involvement in cryptocurrency. She stated that she has since lost trust in the sector and is now more cautious when it comes to investments.
