US Government Transfers $7.2M in Seized Ethereum
The U.S. government has transferred approximately $7.2 million worth of Ethereum from a wallet linked to the seized BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange, according to blockchain tracking firm Onchain Lens.
The transaction occurred four minutes before the report and involved 4,036 ETH being moved to a new, previously unidentified address.
Onchain Lens flagged the transaction as originating from funds seized in connection with the BTC-e exchange, which was shut down by U.S. authorities in 2017 for alleged money laundering and other financial crimes.
The movement of such a significant amount of ETH from a government-controlled wallet is a rare event in the crypto community, often signaling potential liquidation or reorganization of seized assets.
