Senate Returns Amid Crypto Regulation Deadline Looms
The US Senate's return on July 13 marks a critical window for the Clarity Act, which aims to provide clarity and regulation to the US crypto industry. However, with only two weeks left before the August recess, obstacles remain enormous.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has signaled his intention to dedicate the week of July 13 to the National Defense Authorization Act, potentially delaying a Senate floor vote on the Clarity Act until late July or early August.
The bill faces significant hurdles, including the 60-vote threshold required to overcome a filibuster. Even assuming all 53 Republican senators vote in favor, at least 7 Democratic votes are needed, but these come with concessions that have yet to be agreed upon.
