Dogecoin Security Model Sparks Debate Among Developers

Dogecoin's security model has come under scrutiny as developers debate whether it should continue to rely on other networks for its blockchain security.

Paulo Vidal, a developer with the Dogecoin Foundation, questioned whether Dogecoin should remain dependent on Litecoin and merge mining. Merge mining allows miners to use the same computational resources to mine multiple cryptocurrencies simultaneously, including Scrypt-based coins like Litecoin and Namecoin.

Vidal pointed out that this arrangement links Dogecoin's blockchain security to that of Litecoin, raising long-term questions about its autonomy. He asked, 'Should Dogecoin ultimately be able to secure itself, or should it always depend on Litecoin?'

Not all developers agree with Vidal's concerns. Chromatic X argued that Dogecoin's security is not exclusively tied to Litecoin but to all Scrypt-based networks that support merge mining.
