Telegram Unveils Non-Custodial Crypto Wallet Launching This Summer
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has confirmed that his messaging platform will launch its largest-ever non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet this summer. The integration aims to allow over 1 billion active users to send cryptocurrencies instantly and without transaction fees, marking a significant step in the platform's expansion into decentralized finance.
The wallet is expected to be deeply integrated into Telegram's existing interface, allowing users to send crypto as easily as sending a text message. This move builds on Telegram's earlier experiments with blockchain-based features, including the TON (The Open Network) integration and the launch of in-app crypto payments in select markets.
By prioritizing user control and eliminating fees, Telegram is positioning itself as a serious contender in the crypto payments space. However, questions remain about the wallet's underlying blockchain, supported assets, and launch timeline. Durov did not specify which cryptocurrencies would be supported or whether the wallet would initially be available globally.
