Base Creator Stepping Down Amid Shift to Financial Applications

Base creator Jesse Pollak has stepped back from leading the Base App after admitting he made a 'wrong bet' on social features, which left the chain behind in key areas such as prediction markets and perpetual futures.

Pollak said he had focused on creating products like Farcaster, Zora, and miniapps to bring crypto adoption to 'a billion people', but this strategy ultimately disintegrated.

The Base App will return under Coinbase's Jordan Fish, also known as 'Cobie' on X, while Pollak focuses on the Base blockchain.

Pollak acknowledged that financial applications are now the way forward for the network, with a focus on trading, payments, and AI agents.
