Protect Progress-Backed Boafo Wins Maryland Democratic Primary

Adrian Boafo, a pro-crypto Maryland state delegate backed by Protect Progress, a super PAC associated with Fairshake, won the Democratic primary in the state on Tuesday. The $5.5 million poured into the race by Protect Progress largely benefited Boafo's campaign.

Boafo has received significant backing from Protect Progress, which spent roughly $1.9 million to support his bid for office. Outside groups spent a total of $8.8 million in support of Boafo's campaign as of June 3, according to Maryland Matters. This spending included $1.5 million from the United Democracy Project, a super PAC affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Boafo's background as a former federal lobbyist for Oracle may have helped attract support from crypto- and tech-focused PACs. The cloud infrastructure provider's services are used by crypto exchanges and DeFi projects.

Geoff Vetter, a spokesperson for Fairshake, stated that the group 'went big and we went early.' They claimed to have done their part in moving Boafo from fifth place to the halls of Congress, where he is poised to be a leader in the largest pro-crypto Congress in history.
