Sui Introduces Confidential Transfer Feature for Balancing Privacy and Regulation
Sui, a blockchain platform, has taken a significant step towards improving the privacy of transactions on its network. The company has introduced a confidential transfer feature that uses zero-knowledge proofs and Twisted ElGamal cryptography to conceal transaction values and balances while allowing authorized entities to access this information when required.
The feature is designed to cater to the needs of institutions and regulatory bodies, which often require visibility into financial transactions without compromising user privacy. This approach differs from traditional privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, such as Monero, which conceal all aspects of a transaction, making it difficult for exchanges and regulators to comply with requirements.
Sui's confidential transfer feature allows token issuers to activate a confidential mode that conceals balances and transfer amounts from public view. Authorized entities can be granted auditor keys to decrypt balances when required, while issuers retain the ability to freeze or seize assets under specific circumstances.
