Bitcoin Whale Awakens: $383M Wallet Revisited After Eight-Year Slumber

A significant Bitcoin whale has reactivated its wallet after an eight-year slumber. According to blockchain intelligence platform Lookonchain, a wallet that had been dormant since December 2017 transferred 5,908 BTC worth roughly $383 million to a new address on July 15.

The coins moved from a legacy address to a newer SegWit wallet. At the time of transfer, Bitcoin was trading near $64,000, and the balance in this wallet is now worth about $383 million, representing a paper gain of approximately $283 million over eight years.

The recipient wallet has not sent funds onward, and no known exchange deposit address received the transfer, according to on-chain records. This move does not read as a straightforward exit, as large holders often reshuffle assets for various reasons such as upgrading wallet formats or preparing estate transfers.
