Democrats Demand Probe of Trump-UAE Crypto Deal Worth $500 Million
A group of Senate Democrats has written to Republican leadership, urging them to open hearings into a reported $500 million investment in Trump-linked crypto firm World Liberty Financial. The deal links a UAE-backed investor to President Donald Trump's family interests and raises concerns about national security and conflict-of-interest.
The lawmakers point out that this is not an ordinary business arrangement but rather one that requires congressional scrutiny. They argue that the administration has weakened crypto enforcement, and the investment may have influenced decisions made by the president or his officials.
The Democrats are 'deeply concerned' about what the UAE may receive or has received 'at the expense of US national security.' They also question whether the reported investment affected President Trump's decisions. The senators mention that in May 2025, the Trump administration agreed to a major arms and artificial intelligence chip deal with the UAE, despite concerns raised by US national security officials.
The lawmakers tie this investigation request to what they describe as steps to weaken enforcement in the crypto sector. They cite concerns about actions such as exempting crypto service providers from certain financial services regulations and disbanding the Justice Department's crypto enforcement team.
