Coinbase Seeks AI-Powered Security Boost from Anthropic
Crypto exchanges are under increasing pressure to bolster their security infrastructure as AI-powered attacks become more prevalent. In an effort to stay ahead of these threats, Coinbase is reportedly in talks with AI company Anthropic to gain access to its restricted frontier model, Claude Mythos Preview.
The model has been shown to identify thousands of previously unknown software vulnerabilities during testing, including a 27-year-old flaw in OpenBSD and a 16-year-old bug in FFmpeg. This ability to find vulnerabilities makes Mythos an attractive asset for exchanges looking to enhance their security posture.
Coinbase's decision may be influenced by the exchange's 2025 insider breach, which exposed personal data of roughly 70,000 users after overseas support agents were bribed by criminals. The platform refused a $20 million ransom demand and instead posted a matching bounty for information leading to arrests.
