Binance Abandons Greek MiCA Bid, Seeks Alternative EU License
Binance has withdrawn its Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license application in Greece, citing a lack of response from the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) before the July 1 deadline. The move comes just one week after a Reuters report indicated that Binance's application would be rejected.
The exchange stated that it will seek license approval through another EU member state and emphasized that all user funds are safe and secure. Binance has been working with the HCMC for several months to obtain the necessary licenses, but the process appears to have stalled.
Firms operating in the European Union must comply with MiCA regulations by July 1 or risk being forced to cease operations. While Binance's near-term future in the region remains uncertain, the exchange has expressed its commitment to Europe and its ambition to operate under a clear and harmonized regulatory framework.
