Mysten Labs Launches High-Performance Blockchain Sui
Mysten Labs has announced the launch of Sui, a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain that aims to improve ownership, payments, and virtual economies in gaming. The company's co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Adeniyi Abiodun, stated that Sui is built on the Move programming language originally developed during Meta's Libra initiative.
The Sui blockchain uses an object-based execution model rather than the account-based architecture used by Ethereum and many other blockchains. This allows transactions to process independently and in parallel, enabling the network to scale horizontally by adding computing resources. Abiodun argued that this structure enables the network to scale more efficiently for mainstream financial applications.
Mysten Labs is also planning to introduce fee-free stablecoin transfers on Sui, which will be monetized through stablecoin treasury yield and fees on complex smart contract activity rather than peer-to-peer payments. The company has partnered with Nigerian fintech company Paga to use Sui infrastructure for cross-border payments and treasury management.
