Crypto Markets Prepare for $2.1 Billion Options Expiry with Limited Expectations
The upcoming options expiry on April 3, 2026, will see around $2.1 billion worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum contracts expire. While this event is significant in terms of notional value, analysts believe that it will have a limited impact on prices due to their current proximity to key levels.
Bitcoin's max pain level stands at $68,000, with the put-call ratio indicating that more call options than put options are set to expire. This setup typically reduces the chance of a sharp expiry-driven move, as spot prices are already near the level where the largest number of option buyers lose their premiums.
Similarly, Ethereum's spot price is close to its max pain zone of $2,075-$2,100. With both cryptocurrencies trading near their respective key levels, this week's event appears more like a routine settlement than a major turning point.
