Tether Freezes Billions in Crypto-Related Crime
Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, has taken significant steps to combat crypto-related crime by freezing $4.2 billion in USDT linked to illicit activity.
This move represents approximately 2.3% of the circulating USDT supply and demonstrates Tether's commitment to regulatory compliance and user protection.
The frozen funds include $3.5 billion that has been blocked since 2023, with a recent example being the freezing of $61 million in USDT linked to 'pig-butchering' scams, where victims are tricked into sending money with fake investment promises.
