Venice AI Hits Unicorn Status With $65M Series A Led by Dragonfly
Venice AI, a two-year-old startup, has reached unicorn status after raising $65 million in its first Series A funding round. The company's valuation soared to $1 billion following the investment led by crypto venture firm Dragonfly, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and North Island Ventures.
The platform offers access to over 200 AI models while prioritizing user privacy and minimizing data retention. With zero data retention for self-hosted open-source models and stronger privacy tiers available to paying subscribers, Venice has carved out a distinct niche in the fast-moving AI sector.
Venice's founder and CEO Erik Voorhees emphasized that his company is not just an AI platform, but also a neutral tool that respects users' freedom. He drew parallels with Bitcoin, arguing that a protocol that works the same way for everyone is safer than one constantly monitored by authorities.
