Tezos Ecosystem Launches Quantum-Resistant Private Payments Prototype
The Tezos ecosystem has made a significant step towards securing its blockchain against future quantum computing attacks with the launch of a testnet prototype for private payments.
Developed by the Tezos team, the TzEL (Tezos Enclave Layer) prototype utilizes post-quantum cryptography and zk-STARK proofs to shield transaction data from potential cyber threats. This innovation addresses growing concerns over the security of existing blockchain privacy systems, which may be compromised by advances in quantum technology.
The TzEL prototype currently operates on the Tezos testnet and is still under development. The broader Tezos ecosystem is also transitioning towards post-quantum cryptography, a process expected to take several years. The crypto industry has been advised that it has around three to five years to transition to quantum-resistant cryptographic standards before quantum computing becomes a significant threat.
