Actor Ben McKenzie Critiques Cryptocurrency Industry in New Documentary

Actor and director Ben McKenzie has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry, but his latest project takes aim at the world of cryptocurrency. In a new documentary titled 'Everyone is Lying to you for Money,' McKenzie critiques the industry's practices and warns about its potential harm to young people.

McKenzie, who grew up in Austin and has roots in Texas, directed the film with a focus on exposing the predatory tactics used by some cryptocurrency companies. He cites a recent Pew Research Center report that found 42 percent of men aged 18-29 have bought, traded or used cryptocurrency, making them vulnerable targets for these companies.

The documentary premieres at SXSW London in 2025, and McKenzie also co-wrote a book with journalist Jacob Silverman titled 'Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud,' which serves as the basis for the film. In his work on the documentary, McKenzie notes that young men are being targeted by cryptocurrency companies due to their insecurities and misconceptions about themselves.
