Shift4 Payments Accepts Tether Stablecoin through Enhanced Pay with Crypto Solution

Shift4 Payments has made it easier for US merchants to accept Tether's (USDT) stablecoin, expanding its Pay with Crypto solution. The company partnered with Lydian to integrate USDT into its payment system, allowing customers to pay directly from major crypto wallets while merchants receive fiat currency.

This integration means merchants don't need new hardware or a deep understanding of blockchain mechanics. Payments are automatically converted to local currency at the point of transaction.

Shift4's Pay with Crypto solution initially supported Bitcoin and Ethereum in October 2024. The latest addition of USDT is designed to enhance the consumer-facing experience without introducing additional complexity for merchants.

The integration is available across the United States, excluding New York, which has its own regulatory framework for crypto-related financial services.
