Ripple Labs Prepares XRP Ledger for Post-Quantum Era

Ripple Labs has taken steps to address the growing concern of quantum computing's impact on blockchain security. The company has developed a comprehensive strategy to ensure the XRP Ledger remains secure in a post-quantum era, with a multi-year plan that includes phased implementation and evaluation phases.

The plan focuses on four main areas: emergency preparedness, risk assessment and testing, parallel operation of quantum-resistant and traditional cryptography, and final ecosystem-wide adoption. By 2028, the XRP Ledger aims to be fully post-quantum ready, with built-in architectural strengths such as key rotation and seed-based key generation providing a smooth migration path.

The company is working closely with researchers and experts in the field to explore zero-knowledge proofs based on post-quantum techniques. This will allow for secure verification of ownership without exposing keys, leveraging the existing seed-based tools for secure recovery.
