BitMine's Ethereum Acquisition Strategy Draws Institutional Interest
BitMine Immersion Technologies is one of the companies at the forefront of evolving corporate crypto treasury strategies beyond Bitcoin. The company's approach to accumulating Ethereum (ETH) shares has drawn comparisons to Michael Saylor's strategy for acquiring Bitcoin (BTC).
BitMine currently holds around 5.18 million ETH, valued at over $12.2 billion, and has made its third consecutive weekly ETH buy of over 100,000 ETH. The company recently purchased 101,745 ETH, valued at approximately $240 million, and also acquired 10,000 ETH from the Ethereum Foundation in an over-the-counter trade.
Similar to Saylor's strategy, BitMine is using a combination of equity issues and convertible debt financing to accumulate ETH shares. However, BitMine follows a different 'Alchemy of 5%' approach, aiming to purchase around 5% of the total Ethereum supply, which is approximately 6 million ETH.
Ethereum's proof-of-stake infrastructure allows holders to stake ETH and earn yield by being part of the network validation, providing an additional benefit for BitMine. The company has revealed that almost 4.55 million ETH are still staked, representing around 88% of its ETH reserves.
