Coinbase Freezes Funds Linked to Southeast Asian Scammers in Global Operation

Coinbase has taken a significant step in combating cyber fraud by freezing over $3 million in funds linked to Southeast Asian scammers.

The action was part of 'Disruption Week,' a global operation targeting cyber fraud networks organized by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Alongside Coinbase, tech giants like Meta and Microsoft participated in the operation, which also involved dismantling servers and blocking over 1.4 million social media and email accounts.

The U.S. government has stated that investment fraud and 'pig butchering' schemes are among the fastest-growing types of crime, with losses exceeding $11 billion in 2025.

Coinbase representatives emphasize that blockchain technology provides law enforcement with a transparent and immutable history of every transaction, making it easier to track and halt illicit financial flows.
