SecondFi Wallet Breach Results in $2.4 Million ADA Loss

On June 23, SecondFi, a Cardano-based wallet platform, placed itself in secure maintenance mode after reporting a security issue on its wallet. The move came as a precautionary measure to prevent further potential losses from the ongoing incident.

The next day, the team revealed that attackers had successfully withdrawn approximately 16 million ADA (Cardano's native cryptocurrency) from 374 addresses. This translates to around $2.4 million at an ADA price of about $0.146 at the time of the incident.

SecondFi's emergency measures included transferring a significant portion of its assets, around 129 million ADA, to an independent third-party custodian for safekeeping. The company assured that this move was taken to prevent a complete loss of funds during the ongoing exploit.

The team has since clarified that they are working closely with other ecosystem participants, including Input Output Global (IOG), Cardano Foundation, Intersect, and SundaeSwap, to identify the root cause of the incident and implement necessary fixes.
