AI-Powered Crypto Research Platform Founder Ian Balina Talks Rebuilding Trust After Public Failure
Ian Balina is an entrepreneur and crypto investor who has made a name for himself in the industry as the founder and CEO of Token Metrics, an AI-powered crypto research platform.
Born in Kampala, Uganda, Balina immigrated to the United States at age eight and grew up in Maryland and Virginia. He earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Computer Engineering from George Washington University on scholarship.
Before entering crypto, Balina worked as an Analytics Evangelist at IBM, where he reached 194% of his $4 million sales quota and was named a Hundred Percent Club Awardee in 2015. However, it was not until February 2017 that he left the corporate world to build Diary of a Made Man, a crypto-focused content brand.
It was through this platform that Balina became known for his data-driven approach to investing and his ability to rebuild trust after experiencing a high-profile hack in April 2018. During a livestream review of initial coin offerings, Balina's wallet was drained of $2 million, but he continued the stream briefly before it went offline.
The incident served as a valuable lesson for Balina, who has spoken publicly about handling public failure and has since turned his experience into a talk about rebuilding trust. Today, Token Metrics has generated more than $18 million in lifetime revenue and reached 100,000 users, with Balina also serving as General Partner at Token Metrics Ventures.
