Cardano ADA Payments Roll Out at 137 Swiss Supermarkets

The integration of Cardano's ADA into everyday retail has taken a significant step forward with the rollout of payments at 137 SPAR supermarkets in Switzerland. This partnership between the Cardano Foundation and DFX.swiss allows customers to pay for groceries directly from their native Cardano wallets without using centralized exchanges.

Using DFX.swiss's Open Crypto Pay system, customers can scan a code and authorize payment from their Cardano wallet at checkout. The integration handles on- and off-ramp conversions between ADA and the Swiss franc, linking bank accounts to blockchain wallets in the background.

The transactions settle near-instantly on-chain, with merchant fees potentially running roughly two-thirds lower than those on traditional card networks. This could be a significant benefit for retailers operating on thin margins.
