BTQ Technologies has made significant progress in addressing long-term security concerns for Bitcoin with the launch of the first working version of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360 (BIP 360) on its Quantum testnet.

The upgrade introduces a quantum-resistant transaction structure, which is essential to prevent potential future attacks by quantum computers. Researchers predict that these powerful machines will be able to break present encryption systems, including Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), used in Bitcoin.

According to BTQ, the implementation of BIP 360 includes full wallet functionality on the testnet, allowing users to generate, fund, sign, and broadcast transactions directly. The new transaction type called Pay-to-Merkle-Root adds a layer of protection for public keys against possible future quantum attacks.

The introduction of P2MR is compatible with several Bitcoin scalability solutions, including Lightning Network, BitVM, and Ark. However, it's essential to note that older public keys could still be vulnerable to future quantum attacks.
