Aztec Connect Exploit Heist Nets $2.1M as DeFi Security Woes Continue

Aztec Connect's abandoned smart contract was exploited by an attacker on Sunday, resulting in the loss of approximately $2.1 million in crypto assets.

The attack targeted the verification function of Aztec Connect, a deprecated DeFi platform that was shut down in March 2023 and replaced with the new Aztec Network.

Aztec Labs confirmed that around $2.1 million was transferred from the platform's smart contract to an unknown wallet, but assured users that their assets on the current Aztec Network were not affected.

The exploit is part of a larger trend of crypto security breaches this month, with at least 12 other exploits resulting in over $44 million worth of stolen funds, according to DeFiLlama.
