Quantum Computing Breakthrough Threatens Bitcoin Security

A recent breakthrough in quantum computing has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency community. Italian researcher has demonstrated a vulnerability in Bitcoin's security, exploiting Shor's algorithm to extract private keys from public ones using ECC encryption.

The attack, which was conducted as part of a research project, has raised concerns about the potential risk to over 6.9 million Bitcoins stored with public keys. This number is significant, considering the total number of Bitcoins in circulation is around 21 million.

In response to this finding, new proposals such as BIP-360 have been put forward to enhance security measures and mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing attacks on Bitcoin's encryption.
