Bitcoin vs Gold: Central Banks' Preference Shifts
A recent debate has highlighted the differing opinions on the suitability of Bitcoin and gold as reserve assets for central banks.
Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan countered billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya's claim that Bitcoin is structurally flawed, pointing out that gold's physical nature presents significant challenges. Central banks do not want to rely on assets with such requirements, Hougan stated.
Palihapitiya argued that Bitcoin's public blockchain transparency creates problems for reserve asset status and that it will likely remain primarily within ETFs and private investors rather than becoming a core central bank reserve asset.
