LayerZero Crisis: 14 DeFi Protocols Suspend or Terminate Bridging Services
LayerZero, a critical infrastructure layer for cross-chain communication in DeFi, has faced a significant crisis of confidence after fourteen protocols suspended or terminated their bridging services within 48 hours.
The affected protocols represent a broad range of DeFi applications, including lending markets, liquid staking platforms, and yield protocols. The actions taken by these protocols fall into three categories: permanent migration to alternative infrastructure, temporary suspension of bridging services, and market freezes to prevent potential exploits.
Notably, three major protocols have migrated directly to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), which is seen as a more secure infrastructure. This decision suggests that the trust in LayerZero's ability to secure cross-chain messaging has been irreparably damaged for some protocol teams.
