Sui Removes Gas Friction from Stablecoin Transfers

Sui has introduced gas-free stablecoin transfers at the protocol level, aiming to simplify payments for users and developers. This move targets one of the most frustrating aspects of crypto transactions: requiring native tokens for transaction fees.

Gas is a normal concept for experienced crypto users but can be a significant hurdle for newcomers. They may hold stablecoins like USDC in their wallets but struggle to send them without first acquiring the chain's native token, which is often required for transaction fees.

The new feature, implemented through Sui's Move API, sets gas at zero and absorbs the fee burden away from end-users. This means users can move supported stablecoins like USDC without holding SUI for fees, making payments more straightforward.

This development could make Sui more competitive in stablecoin payments and consumer crypto apps. The supported list of assets includes USDC, USDsui, suiUSDe, AUSD, FDUSD, USDB, and USDY.
