Verus-Ethereum Bridge Suffers Major Security Breach
The Verus-Ethereum Bridge is a cross-chain infrastructure that allows users to transfer assets between the Verus blockchain and Ethereum. However, recent events have raised concerns about the security of this bridge. On May 18th, Blockaid's exploit detection system flagged an ongoing drain of approximately $11.58 million from the Verus-Ethereum Bridge.
According to on-chain analytics account Lookonchain, the attacker converted all stolen funds into 5,402 ETH within a two-hour window. The rapid conversion suggests that the attacker was motivated by speed rather than attempting to negotiate or return the stolen assets.
The Verus team has not yet issued an official statement about the exploit or confirmed whether the bridge has been paused. Users are advised to exercise caution and avoid interacting with the bridge until further notice.
