CLARITY Act Fails to Gain Traction Amid Senate Debate
The CLARITY Act has hit another roadblock in its journey through the U.S. Senate, as key Democrats have formally expressed their opposition to the current draft.
Eighty-six Democratic senators, including Angela Alsobrooks and Cory Booker, have voiced their concerns about the bill's lack of stronger ethics rules, consumer protections, safeguards against illicit finance, conflict-of-interest protections, and market integrity.
The biggest point of contention appears to be over ethics and enforcement. Democrats want stricter rules preventing elected officials from personally benefiting from crypto-related businesses while influencing digital asset policy.
Crypto analyst Lark Davis has pointed out that violations could result in a $250,000-per-day DOJ fine, highlighting the importance of establishing clear regulations for the industry.
