Ethereum Unveils Long-Term Roadmap with Quantum Safety and Privacy Top Priority

Ethereum's long-term roadmap has been updated by Vitalik Buterin, who describes it as the biggest protocol transformation since the 2022 Merge. The Lean Ethereum framework introduced in July 2025 is being revised to prioritize quantum safety, privacy, scalability, and lighter node operations.

Buterin notes that blockchain state changes may be the most disruptive part of the long-term roadmap. To address this, Ethereum plans to use recursive STARKs to allow compact proof verification instead of repeating every transaction.

The updated roadmap targets stronger security, greater scalability, and better privacy over several years. It aims to replace vulnerable cryptographic systems with quantum-safe alternatives and increase development priorities for quantum resistance.
