Bitcoin and Ethereum Post Gains in March After Prolonged Decline
After a prolonged period of decline, both Bitcoin and Ethereum have posted gains in March. According to CoinGlass data, Bitcoin closed the month up 1.81%, while Ethereum gained 6.97%. This marks an end to negative performance for both assets, with Bitcoin's streak lasting five consecutive months and Ethereum's lasting six.
The monthly performance of both assets was highly volatile, driven in part by geopolitical factors. For Bitcoin, the biggest drop on record occurred in 2018, when it fell 32.8%, while the largest gain was seen in 2013 at 172.76%. Similarly, Ethereum's biggest gain was 214.11% in 2017, and its biggest loss was 53.79% in 2018.
As of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $68,663, while Ethereum is trading at $2,137. The weekly charts for both assets still show a decline, with Bitcoin down 2.7% and Ethereum down 0.82%. Despite this, the gains posted in March mark an encouraging trend for both cryptocurrencies.
