EU Proposes Visa Ban on Former Russian Military Personnel
The European Union has taken another step to increase pressure on Moscow over the ongoing war in Ukraine with a proposed comprehensive visa ban on former Russian military personnel and members of proxy groups.
As part of its 21st sanctions package against Russia, the EU aims to prevent these individuals from entering Europe. The proposal is part of an effort to further weaken Russia's ability to sustain its military campaign.
The proposed measures target Russia's financial sector, energy industry, and drone production network, with over 170 new listings included in the package. Asset freezes on nearly 90 banks and additional transaction bans on more than 30 banks in Russia and other countries are also proposed.
Additionally, the EU seeks to tighten restrictions on cryptocurrency services and ban transactions involving 11 crypto platforms. The temporary freeze of the Russian oil price cap and new restrictions on the resale of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers to Russia are also part of the package.
