Cyber Threats Mount as Hackers Continue to Find New Ways In
Security threats continue to plague the digital world as hackers and malicious actors find new ways to infiltrate systems. In recent weeks, researchers have uncovered several high-profile cases of cyber attacks that highlight the importance of vigilance in online security.
The macOS malware known as 'infostealer' has been making headlines for its ability to steal sensitive data from users' devices. According to SlowMist researchers, this malware can hijack authenticated messenger sessions and target both software and hardware wallets, allowing attackers to collect passwords, cookies, and databases from various crypto wallets and browser extensions.
The Scattered Spider hacking group has also been in the news after two key members were sentenced to five years and six months in prison for their role in hacking London's transport system. The attack caused significant disruption, with 148 internal systems going down and major losses totaling £29 million. Authorities estimate that if the attackers had fully shut down the transport network, the UK economy could have lost up to £56 billion.
Additionally, a group of hackers set up over 300 fake GitHub repositories masquerading as popular antivirus tools and cryptocurrency services. These repositories contained malware that stole data from 19 browsers and 32 crypto wallets, among other sensitive information.
